Historical Catholic University Institute of Bertoua

On December 8, 2006, the Ecclesiastical Province of Bertoua estimated, with HE Mgr Roger PIRENNE, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bertoua, HE Mgr Samuel KLEDA, President of the Provincial Episcopal Conference of Bertoua and Bishop of Batouri, HE Mgr Eugeniusz JURETZKO, Bishop of Yokadouma and HE Msgr. Jan OZGA, Bishop of Doumé-Abong-Mbang, that the time had come to look into the promotion of higher education in eastern Cameroon.

This is how the Bishops created the International University of Bertoua (abbreviated IUB), in accordance with Canon 807 of the Code of Canon Law of the Catholic Church.

This important project was facilitated by the Apostolic Constitution, Ex Corde Ecclésia, relating to Catholic Universities whose purpose is teaching, research and training in the secular sciences and in respect for the doctrine of the Church, the mission Catholic Universities being "the ardent search for Truth and its disinterested transmission to young people and to all those who learn to reason with rigor, to act with rectitude and better serve human society (ECE 2)".

The International University of Bertoua aimed to gradually open the faculties of Religious Sciences, Social Sciences, Social Communications, Economic Sciences, Legal and Political Sciences, Agronomic Sciences, Technological Sciences, Medicinal Sciences, etc.

As the first management team of the IUB, the Founding Bishops have appointed to the post of Rector Mgr Pr Dr André KRYNSKI, Vicar Episcopal of the Archdiocese of Bertoua, as Vice-rector in charge of academic and financial affairs Father Daniel WOUNG DOB and as Grand Chancellor HE Mgr Roger Pirenne, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bertoua. The post of Secretary General will be entrusted later to Pascal BEKOLO BEKOLO.

On September 21, 2007, the Minister of Higher Education signed Order No. 07/0140 / MINESUP establishing the University Institute of Bertoua followed by the signing, on May 5, 2008, of Order No. 08 / 0117 / MINESUP opening a higher education institution.

Appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bertoua on December 3, 2009, Mgr Joseph ATANGA was installed on January 30, 2010, succeeding Mgr Roger PIRENNE. He becomes the second Grand Chancellor of the IUB

On May 14, 2010, the Board of Directors decides to change the name of the International University of Bertoua (IUB) into the Catholic University Institute of Bertoua whose mission, "through teaching and research, offers a indispensable contribution to the Church. Indeed, it prepares men and women who, inspired by Christian principles and prepared to live their Christian vocation in a motherly and responsible manner, will be able to occupy positions of responsibility in the Church. In addition, the results of scientific research made available to the Institute will help the Church to respond to the problems and requirements of the time ”(ECE '31).

Since January 31, 2011, the date of the resignation of Archbishop Pr Dr KRYNSKI, the IUB has operated without a rector, until the appointment, in September 2012, of Archbishop Joseph ATANGA, statutory Grand Chancellor, as Rector of the Institution. Father Daniel WOUNG DOB, reappointed as Vice-Rector, will now only be responsible for academic affairs. The post of Secretary General, occupied by Pascal BEKOLO BEKOLO, has remained vacant since that date.

On April 6, 2015, Father Alexandre AOUDI GOLIKE, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Bertoua, was appointed Vice-rector in charge of academic affairs to replace Father Daniel WOUNG DOB, returned to his Diocese, namely Doumé -Abong-Mbang.

Like all regions of Cameroon, the East needs a wise intellectual elite in order to promote its development. This is why the creation of a university institution is essential to meet the aspirations of the populations.

The Eastern Region, which shares its borders with the Central African Republic and the People's Republic of Congo, benefits from this proximity advantage since young people from these neighboring countries will be able to follow the training provided.

Our University Institution has signed Framework Partnership Agreements with the University of Yaoundé II-Soa, and Specific Agreements binding respectively the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management to the Faculty of Economics and Management, for training courses preparing for Bachelor, Master and Doctorate diplomas in Economic and Management Sciences, on the one hand, and the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of Yaoundé II to that of the Catholic University Institute of Bertoua, for training courses preparing for Capacity diplomas in Law, License, Master and Doctorate in Legal and Political Sciences, on the other hand.

Finally, the École Supérieure de Gestion de Bertoua has just signed a Collaboration Agreement "Articulation" with the Sup Group of Co La Rochelle "concerning the integration of our students into the above-mentioned Group. Clearly, students of the Ecole Supérieure de Gestion de Bertoua, holders of a License, may be admitted after having passed the international tests, in Specialized MBA. At the end of the validation of the program by them, they will obtain the Specialized MBA from the Groupe Sup de Co La Rochelle (cf. Model C). As for Model D, namely the ESC Grande Ecole Program, students of the Graduate School of Management of the Catholic University Institute of Bertoua, holders of a License, may be admitted, after having successfully passed the international admission tests , in the second year of the ESC Grande Ecole Program. Thus, at the end of two years of validated studies, they will obtain the diploma with a Masters degree from the Groupe Sup de Co la Rochelle ”.

In a word, the Catholic University Institute of Bertoua, placed under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and whose motto is "Sapientia aedificavit sibi domum" (Wisdom abti his house), will be able to respond, through its various functional establishments such as the Bertoua School of Management (ESGB), the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FSE), the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences (FSJP) and the Faculty of Religious Sciences (FSR), for the training needs of young people, respecting the laws of Cameroon, and asserting itself as a Catholic Confessional University.
